New Job :)

Well my time payed off as a part-time employee at KSL. Now I'm the Sports Editor/ Producer (producing only when the other guys take time off). So things are better as far as money goes.

You know my family told me that my blog sucks becuase it's not about me. I mostly use this to keep up on Journalism skills. You never know. But some even said blogging is worthless and it's just not worth paying attention to bla bla bla.

Here is what I have learned ... there is a differnece to Web journals and Web Reporting. Society has kept them under one word "Blogging" but there is a big differnece.

A true blogger would be a Web Reporter. check Cnet.com, engadget.com or even drudgereport.com that is Web Reporting or what I call Blogging.

What the world views at Blogging would be the stupid Web Journals out there such as this web site. Not that that would be a bad thing. It's good for some people to get things writen down like a regular journal. But it's not the same as someone doing reporting. Web Journalist are now to the internet has TV reporters are to the 10 o'cloack newscast.

Net Neutrality

So if you are not up to date on what Net Neutrality is check the link ... or this one too http://www.savetheinternet.com/blog/

There is no way you can call this a free market if you let big companies block internet sites that you would want. We went through this with TV putting FX over other companies ads at sporting events and movies.

Now just wondering where the heck would the ACLU be right now. This is a bigger threat to the right to information than anything they are perusing right now. Um duh ... Fighting for child molesters and rapist to not be on a internet database is weak compared to companies such as AOL, Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint etc ... blocking you from using sites that they don't have buddies in. This much more of a threat to the basic Freedom than anything out there right now. And yet everyone is whining about the NSA and Gitmo (ACLU and others) when this poses a bigger threat to our right to information then Classified Documents.

um duh ... I guess sniffing their own farts is better than actually fighting the GOOD fight or the right one.

The Tech World is moving at a blistering pace. Why do I think that? Well let's just say I have a few friends that blog for a living and they keep up on all the latest in Digital Video life. So why would that be important. Hmmm ... good question.

You've heard people say as soon as you buy a computer it's already out dated. Much like buying a new car means the value starts to drop. Well how do you keep up?

Here's how I keep up.

1- I never buy something that I know will be out dated soon. It's easy to get the newest thing out there. Take the iPod ... I just got my first one, a friend of mine bought the first model. He paid $100 bucks more and only gets 5 gigs out of his. I'm currently using that right now. With 25 more to go.

2- If you can do with out it than do with out it. When I get new technology for my parents I make sure they will use it. I would never get them a laptop they don't need it. I will never get them anything MP3 and I will never get them anything wireless. They can't handle it and they have a nice life as it is. They have a good computer with a great flat screen and nice speakers a DVD player and CD six dics stereo, Digital Camera and that's it. They don't need anything else. I do wish they had high speed internet though.

3-stay in your budget. I can't understand people that buy things because they can, yet have no money for it. I've been wanting a external Hard Drive for the last year but the way my bills come in and other things that are much more pressing, I do not spend the money on that Hard Drive. I spent 2 years saving to get this computer.

Just in simple terms don't buy at the same rate as technology is created. Oh and one more thing do your research before buying.

Amendment protect each other!

Our Amendments come in order of importance to the founding fathers ... According to James Madison the fastest way to bring down a democracy like ours "...a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace."

Why are these Subject addressed in the First Three Amendments? (knowing the 3rd is housing soldiers but in general "army's")

Because they are the most abused my Governments.

If you have no freedom to say what you want then you don't exist in History. If you have no way to defend yourself then you are not free because at anytime your freedom can end by your Government. And If you have a fat lazy army then you are not a strong country to defend your core values.

These three Amendment are linked to each other if you throw out parts of one then the other two will be threatened as well.

Who defends you to Make your free criticisms on anything you want? If you don't have your Defenders then how do you defend yourself and the speech you choose? In fact the first amendment needs the latter two in order to defend it's self.

Mirrors for rent.

Dang-it I haven't posted for a while ... It took a comment left by someone with a blogspot titled
Juicy Fruit ... Thank you.

Anyways I figured out that more people disagreed with my last post than anything. I think that's great, I didn't write it for people that away's agree with me and it doesn't mean I'm right either, that is what debate is all about. Today's post will be a mix of the same issue. But, without going on ... Happy New Year and Cnovom Godom.

The last post was on reporters that should never identify their sources and I made the point about the subject not being a big deal and protection doesn't matter for that situation. Well something did come up that matters ... Domestic Spying.

This does need protections that is my belief all the way. However, what gives the news source the right to hold the information for over a year?

That's condescending to America. The NY times is saying only we know when this is right for the public to know about it. Yeah, it's right when a book deal and the patriot act are up in the public eye. If it's information then I want it now and deal with it later. If I can't get it now then tell me why. The Times once again is saying we are better than all of you, a holier than thou line. It is not the news outlets rights to report when they fell like it when it's news because the public has the right to know. That's why we keep the media out of government hands so we don't have things like this happy.

Reporters get on their high horse and say "I'm so great just look at how the people need me," Oh really well did you forget that people have the right now the luxury to know. Get the info to them now and quite look in the mirror!

Ok that's all for now.

Check and Balance?

Let's talk about the recent news of the past week with the New York Times reporter that went to jail because she wouldn't identify a source who identified a spy for her.

Now here lies an issue that is two dimensional (black or white). You will either agree that reporters should have lawful protection on sources or you don't think they should.

First off lets identify the situation; This reporter had a story that wasn't about a president doing the wrong thing. The spy wasn't killing people in fact the only thing bad was she was getting information that was sensitive to some, but I really believe the general population has a romance with espionage. That false sense of "Spying" really gets out of control with Hollywood. So in my book this person was not threatening anyone anymore than your best friend telling a girl you like her without your consent.

Should this reporter be protected for that? Believe me the journalist elitist want that.

I don't think Journalist of any sort should ever have protection in the category of petty issues. Hey if it changes history then we need something like that but Judith Miller wasn't. Really all this did was boost Millers career even more than it was. Did anyone know her until now. Plus, she knew the consequences and still went ahead that's not heroic that's ideological. Quite hiding behind the first amendment.

Reporters believe that what they are doing is so great they sometimes forget they're not much more different than anyone else in this world, they just have a different job. True stories are about the people in the story not the one telling them.

I know, I know we need someone to find dirt, and getting the information from the government is worthless heck just look at WMD. But, this wasn't WMD this was one person of hundreds out there and she wasn't even doing anything worth wild at the time.

Where are the reporters when we need to know if intelligence is wrong and it's being ignored where are the reporters when false stories are published by there fellow Journalist. Where are the reporters when Enron was foiling thousands of 401k and company profits or where were they when Rwanda cried for help (and today its Sudan).

If you want protection then clean up the industry. Because we all know what it's about $$$$.

Yes, Old People

WORKING PEOPLE FREQUENTLY ASK RETIRED PEOPLE WHAT THEY DO TO
MAKE THEIR DAYS INTERESTING.
I WENT TO THE STORE THE OTHER DAY. I WAS ONLY IN THERE FOR ABOUT 5
MINUTES.
WHEN I CAME OUT THERE WAS A CITY COP WRITING OUT A PARKING TICKET. I WENT
UP TO HIM AND SAID, "COME ON, BUDDY, HOW ABOUT GIVING A SENIOR A BREAK?"
HE IGNORED ME AND CONTINUED WRITING THE TICKET. I CALLED HIM A NAME.
HE GLARED AT ME AND STARTED WRITING ANOTHER TICKET FOR HAVING WORN TIRES.
SO I CALLED HIM A WORSE NAME. HE FINISHED THE SECOND TICKET AND PUT IT ON
THE WINDSHIELD WITH THE FIRST. THEN HE STARTED WRITING A THIRD TICKET.
THIS WENT ON FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. THE MORE I ABUSED HIM THE MORE TICKETS
HE WROTE.
I DIDN'T CARE. MY CAR WAS PARKED AROUND THE CORNER AND THIS ONE HAD A
"HILLARY IN '08" BUMPER STICKER ON IT.
I TRY TO HAVE A LITTLE FUN EACH DAY NOW THAT I'M RETIRED. IT'S IMPORTANT AT
OUR AGE .

BOOYAKASHA!

I have never done so Little and yet found some much in just a few short weeks like I have these past few.

Besides learning how technology will become so much more a part of my life I discovered Ali-G and Borat. Holly Crap now I'm recovering "no dought".

As I reflect on the creation of Ali-G entertainment I look at the nations current issue with hurricanes and oil and blaming and whining and things I have no patience for.

First off Gas ... enough said ... I was impressed by Donald Trump who I do not like but must agree with when he says to screw OPEC and move on. He talks about how the White House is letting theirselves get pushed around by them. Well said Trumper. The Bush people let their selves get to buddied-up (putting people in positions because of Friendships) and they do little for the good of the country. Now granted the Dems are no better and in many other areas worse than that. In fact Republicans are stupid in very public areas and Democrats, stupid in private places which I think is worse mostly because no one ends up stopping them before it's really too late.

It would be interesting to go ahead and have applications for people to end up in White house Administrations so we get the best person possible rather than your bud.

Ok that's all I'm board so no more writing.
